Breaking Ground with the Alderwood

Last year a good friend of mine participated in The Breaking Ground Tour, a blog tour specifically featuring some smaller, less know, indy pattern companies. I loved the idea so much that this year when I saw the call for bloggers I hurried to apply. I was so excited to be added to the group but with so many amazing pattern companies out there who would I choose??

I saw that Phat Quarters patterns would be sponsoring and knew right away that I wanted to feature the Alderwood top. I have been eyeing it ever since it was released and never has there been a better time to try it!

When you have a million kids you can never sew for just one. I always find myself sewing in sets split uo by the size range they fit into, a set for the three big kids that fit into womens clothes these days, or a set for the three little kids who are still in children’s sizes.

The oldest on the pack of little’s is my son Nathaniel. He loves Starwars and most things nerdy so he got to pick the fabric for these shirts, he went with all Starwars themed stuff from Aurora Design Fabrics and was so excited to get it on. He loves it so much he asked me to sew him another one for school tomorrow!

Next up is Arya who was quite upset that we were doing Starwars and not Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings which are some of her favorites but was much happier about it when she saw these beautiful watercolor fabrics I picked for her top. She was really excited about the cowl neck it is a little different than any other patterns and she really liked the difference.

Last but definitely not least this handsome little hellion. He can’t tell me his favorite part of this shirt yet but I know he loves it and boy is he handsome in it 😍

I could not be happier with how everything of them came out! Each one comes from the same base but has a slight veriation on the side piece, shoulder or sleeve differences. I love the options on it and the fact that all of these were made using panels and scraps from other projects. I am always looking for great patterns that are good for scrap busting and this fits the bill.
